Sink or Float? Home Experiment

You will need

• A large bowl of water
• A coin, a cork, a spoon, a leaf, a rubber, a small toy
• Paper and a pencil

Steps (0/6 done)

1. Step 1. Ask a grown-up to help. Put the bowl on a table and lay a towel underneath.
2. Step 2. Choose six small objects. For each one, guess: sink or float? Write your guess down.
3. Step 3. Gently place each object in the water and watch what happens.
4. Step 4. Compare your guesses to what happened. Which surprised you?
5. Step 5. Try making a floating thing sink (add a coin), or a sinking thing float (put it on a leaf boat).
6. Step 6. Dry everything, wipe up spills, and wash your hands.
